I’m still exploring and thinking about the work of Tana Hoban — discussed here earlier this week — and it’s given me an idea for an easy photo-walk prompt (camera optional, as always). But before I get to that, quick updates from the chat:

  • More responses still coming in response to November’s prompt, Mysteries. Take a look — and join in! — here.

  • In this thread about starting noticing clubs (or societies!), there’s interest from Barcelona, the SF Bay Area, Boston, Tucson, Phoenix, San Diego, Charleston (SC), and multiple folks in Berlin, Los Angeles, and Pittsburgh. And someone has suggested an online version. Chime in on the thread if you’re interested, and reach out to others there to make something happen! I’m happy to help of course.

Okay, back to Hoban. About eight and a half minutes into the interview that I posted last time, she talks about her book Count and See. That project came about when her attention was drawn to the sight of five trash cans, “in a neat row, on a beautiful, sunny day,” she says. “I thought ‘1, 2, 3, 4, 5’ and immediately started to count everything in sight.”
