RW Quarterly Report: NEWS: Spawn of Gerrymander Project launching now! (Plus a giveaway)
|Rob Walker||Oct 14, 2014|
Hello! Here is the latest RW Quarterly Report, featuring liberal use of the first person singular.
THE BIG NEWS: Just launched on Design Observer, "Spawn of Gerrymander"
A series in which some of our favorite illustrators use their talents to help us see the true shape of political mapmaking in the twenty-first century:
Over the course of this week, this series will present graphic visualizations of six gerrymandered U.S. Congressional districts, created by six dynamite illustrators: Joe Alterio, Steve Brodner, Lisa Congdon, Jennifer Daniel, Oliver Munday, and Leif Parsons.
Introduction essay here; see the first entry here; browse the whole series, as it unfolds, here. This project has been made possible in large part by a grant from The Awesome Foundation's Awesome Without Borders chapter.
Please, please please check out and help spread the word about this endeavor!
THE OTHER NEWS:
For a story for YahooTech, I made a couple of Twitter bots. In making @TrendRaconteur I got a crucial assist from the brilliant Mike Lacher. I managed to finish the second bot, Fake Trend Raconteur, myself.
Partly in response to a column I wrote about Jony Ive's amusingly predictable appearances in Apple product-promo videos, the delightful Army of Id made a Jony Ive Supercut. I like it!
For T Magazine, I wrote about the (latest!) Golden Age of Design.
I had a great time speaking about Significant Objects at the Sheldon Museum of Art in Lincoln, Nebraska, in connection with the exhibition Things Speak: Storied Objects from Lincoln Collections.
Nothing that I can talk about right at the moment, actually! Just stay tuned.
